We are pleased to continue the tour of our Sedona, Arizona project with a tour of the home's living room.
We were brought in to help design this home during the early phases of construction. Working closely with the client, we selected all the finishes and hard surfaces for this gorgeous ground-up building project.
The home itself is about 3500sf, with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, an office, and a gym.
It has breathtaking views of the surrounding Sedona landscape.

Setting the Stage: The Exterior
The structure itself is modern, with various materials on the outside creating texture and visual interest. The home and roof are intentionally kept a dark color to blend into the surrounding landscape.

Our client, who formerly had a home in Palm Springs, wanted to keep the vibe fun and site specific, but avoid any Sedona cliches.

The Big Picture
This new construction home was designed with the popular "open floor plan" where the main living room is directly adjacent to the dining room and kitchen. This "formal" living room needs to serve many functions -- from our client watching television alone, to hosting her book club, to entertaining friends for cocktails.

We designed a flexible and contemporary seating grouping with a curved back sofa, two generously-scaled lounge chairs, and a comfy swiveling arm chair facing the television, perfectly scaled for our client. Sculptural stools provide pops of added color and additional seating.

A rug from Marc Phillips offers softness underfoot while a custom-made coffee table pays homage to the mountain landscape outside. The leather ottoman is easy to grab when our client is ready to put her feet up and relax.
Luxe Layers

For the focal point fireplace, we designed a series of planes clad in contrasting, yet complementary, materials. Split-face stone in a soft sand color adds a layer of texture at the back, while rusted Cor-Ten steel panels a layer of patina behind the television. The floating fireplace hearth, which provides extra seating, is made of Cambria Quartz.
We intentionally selected materials with lots of texture to lend a layer softness to the modern architecture. The swivel chairs are from Renee Cazares and covered in a beautiful teal-colored nubby fabric.

The chair pillow fabric is by Elitis, part of a Southwestern-inspired collection that pays homage to artwork and symbolism found in Native American culture.
Mixed Materials

A generously-scaled side table has a concrete finish with a teak wood top. In the adjacent hallway, custom walnut sliding doors were commissioned by our client, with a retro pattern that reminds her of her former home in Palm Springs.

Accent furniture lends visual interest through an intentional mix of materials: a stone drinks table, light oak legs on the stools, and a clay planter.

I hope you enjoyed this tour!
