4500 Square Feet
7 Bedrooms / 6 Baths

PROJECT DETAILS

Originally built in 1936, this cottage was one of the first homes built in the private enclave of Smoke Tree Ranch – a quiet gated community noted for one of its first and long-time residents, Walt Disney. The original cottages were not allowed to have kitchens nor swimming pools, as all meals were taken at the Ranch House and the community was built around ranch-wide social events. Our clients desired a home that was comfortable for the two of them but adaptable to accommodate frequent entertaining and sizable enough to house their entire family, including grown children and grandchildren. Steve Poehlein of SP Design + Build designed a sizable addition, including a large new chef’s kitchen, four bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom, and a “kid’s kitchen” and playroom. Brought in early during the construction process, our team created an interior that feels at once fresh yet nostalgic. Comfort and durability were paramount. We incorporated our client’s favorite colors, blue and white, alongside California plein air paintings and décor touches that nod to the ranch setting.
