No matter the season, it pretty much always feels like summer here in Palm Springs. In our designs, we like to keep the easy-breezy summer vibes alive all year long. Tropical wallpaper does just that, and one of our favorites is the La Palma wallpaper, designed by Catherine Martin for Mokum Textiles. Ms. Martin is married to film director Baz Luhrmann, and she designed the sets for his hit movies. Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby -- talk about talent!
See all colorways of La Palma here.
We recently used La Palma in the "midnight" colorway (shown on the left above) in a bedroom design and we are obsessed with how it turned out! The bold black color is not everyone's first choice, but we love how it sets a sophisticated scene.
We paired La Palma with the sleek and sophisticated Linnet bed designed by my pal, Bobby Berk, from TV's "Queer Eye." The beautiful walnut finish is a great complement to the wallpaper. The bed is available at our online shop.
With the fundamentals of the room down, we turned our attention to the bedding.
Bedding is the really the icing on the cake for the bedroom, and yet it’s typically the least costly design element of your space -- and the most easy to switch up. Good bedding can transform your room from blah to BAM. Even a few throw pillow swaps can make a huge difference!
We wanted to show you three ways that we did up the bedding for this stylish space.
Taking inspiration from the vibrant and fun wallpaper, a green theme is present in all three options. All three bedding options use Signoria coverlets and shams, as they are the more expensive investment pieces. However, a few subtle differences set these looks apart and makes each one unique in its own right.
Style One has our Citrus Moon Silk Velvet Pillows. Yes, these are as magical and luxurious as they sound. They are the perfect pop against the green Signoria Coverlet and Shams, and that sheen brings in the high style that every bedroom should have. We finished the look with a simple throw blanket, which serves as both a "bed scarf" and extra layer for warmth. We find that one half of a couple tends to run cold...while the other runs hot! This blanket keeps everyone happy.
Style Two is similar, but instead of our luxurious silk velvet pillows, we’ve switched to dramatic black-and-white in the throw pillows. Our CK Diagonal Pillows add a a striking and clean look to the bedding. Both looks have the cotton throw which ties in the color story for a harmonious look, but in Style Two folded it differently.
Last, and certainly not least, our Style Three really embraces the Palm Springs vibe with a pattern-on-pattern look. Often on a bed, I like to add a singular large lumbar pillow in front of the shams. One pillow makes for a great focal point. I believe in making one's bed every day, and this look makes the task so easy! For this look, we swapped out the throw blanket for a crisp and clean white duvet for a refreshing look.
I hope you are inspired! See how easy it is to switch up the look of your bedroom as tastes or seasons change!
