Giving back

Having lived in Palm Springs since 2003, Christopher is committed to giving back to the community that he calls home. It is part of our core beliefs is that we must give to receive and that there is enough to go around – if more people would just share it!

As a firm, we champion several causes close to our hearts. Christopher’s line of pet harnesses, sold at our Palm Springs boutique, benefits the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. In addition, Christopher recently donated his time and resources to renovate, design, and furnish Sanctuary Palm Springs, a home for homeless and at-risk LGBT youth.

Our largest annual charity event is The Christopher Kennedy Compound decorator showcase house. The official Show House of Modernism Week, each year Christopher leads the renovation of a classic Palm Springs property and brings together the nation’s top interior designers to create unique rooms.

The Christopher Kennedy Compound attracts about 6000 visitors in ten days and raises nearly $100,000 for Modernism Week’s preservation and education efforts. Funds raised by the Modernism Week 501(c)3 directly benefit architectural preservation, neighborhoods in Palm Springs, and scholarships for local design and architecture students. The project is featured nationally in Traditional Home magazine and regionally in California Home + Design.

“When I moved to Palm Springs, we did not have a decorator showcase house like many cities do, which surprised me,” explains Christopher. “It is such fertile ground for a decorator showcase: we have wonderful architecture, the annual event of Modernism Week which attracts about 90,000 participants from 20 countries, and many worthwhile charities. Each year, the Compound is my labor of love and way of giving back to the city that has given me so much.”

Past tastemakers of The Christopher Kennedy Compound include Michael Berman, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, kate spade new york, Kelli Ellis, Celerie Kemble, Jamie Durie, Trina Turk, oh Joy! for Target, Kelly Lee (aka Kelly Golightly), Michel Boyd, Patrick Dragonette, Jiun Ho, and Carson Kressley.

Past and current sponsors of our Show House include Ferguson, LaCantina Doors, Thermador, Crossville Tile, Eggersmann USA cabinetry, Cosentino, DuPont, Dunn-Edwards paints, LeGrand, and many more.
