Palm Springs: Prepares to Taste the Appetito Deli, February 2014

For weeks, I have worked with owner, Patrick Service and Chef Chad Shaner to bring their California Italian deli to life. I must say, this project has been deeply rewarding because family rests at the very center of this deli’s design. My vision for the interior of Appetito was largely inspired by a photograph of an associate’s grandfather who migrated to Palm Springs from New York in 1956.

This charming photograph captured the essence of what Patrick wanted and freed me to delve into modern Palm Springs decor merged with the classic nuances of a New York corner deli.

I don’t know about you, but when I think of a deli I think of freshly baked bread and corned beef; the culinary creation of Appetito is so much finer. It is no secret that Italian dining is a family affair, which is why I selected long tables for the ease of sharing and conversation. Just imagine your favorite people and a menu of handmade pastas, paninis, seasonal ingredients and a stunning menu of California and Italian wines handpicked by Patrick (who has a spectacular palette).

Appetito has settled across the street from the Ace Hotel and plans to open its doors February 2014. I hope you’ll check it out whenever you are in the neighborhood.
